Like New York City in the 1980's, rents are cheap, graffiti is
everywhere and the air crackles with a creativity that comes only from
a city in transition. Once oppressed by Communism, Berlin, one of
Europe's largest capitals, is now teaming with an artistic, sexual,
and personal freedom that has brought in an influx of performers,
musicians and artists to the city that never sleeps.
I spent one month documenting the clubs, the nightlife and the
underground scene of Berlin that bursts forth when the sun goes down.
Often starting my photographing at 11pm and ending past 4am I found
that in these hours people seem more alive, more colorful and less
apologetic about who they are and what they do. Under the red gaze of
a neon bar light anything and everything happens without regret.
